Dino-Era Disaster: Multiple Drowned toothy Birds

According to MSNBC’s article, there were a group of birds that settled near a large river in Transylvania during the Mesozoic era. These birds lived next to the river for some time, until the river flooding drowned them out. The birds then died and fossilized. What only remained were some broken eggshells and fossils. This gives scientists more information than most would think. This can tell scientists that the water was only a few feet above where it would normally be, and came in, swept up the eggshells and a few adult fossils and dragged them out to a shallow depression, possibly on the other side of the body of water.

I think the article could have been improved by adding more information about the birds themselves. The reader is given very little information about what the fossils have told us about the birds. Another thing I think would have made the article better is giving the reader more necessary information and prioritizing. The reader reads all about how the water moved the fossils, but not about where this location is (more specifics needed) and what genus, species, or even family these birds were from.

Overall I though the article was very interesting and gave the reader important information about an extremely new discovery. The reader was informed on all the important information and made it clear and easy to grasp as a concept.

  1. Liam was able to concisely sum up this article in a very easy to understand and interesting way. I liked how he described how the birds were fossilized and not just what the birds were. I also enjoyed how he included some scientist’s theories about the fossils and the birds, because it was more informative that way. Another thing I like is how he pointed out that we should know more about the birds themselves because I was very interested in learning why these birds were so important.

I didn’t like how he wasn’t very descriptive and only used one sentence per point. This caused me to become confused at times and not fully understand the importance of some facts. I also didn’t like how the article didn’t include more facts about the importance of these birds and some characteristics of these birds.

I always enjoy reading articles about new species/creatures being discovered because I find them very fascinating and it is interesting to see what animals were picked for natural selection and what animals were not.

  2. Overall I think Liam did a good job reviewing this article. He did a good job summing up the article in a clear and understandable way. He also was able to include the most important parts of the article in a very interesting way. Liam also did a good job including the theories from observing the broken eggshells and fossils. Including these theories/inferences was very helpful to understanding the importance of this new discovery.
Although Liam did a good job with his review overall, I think there are some aspects where he could have improved. Even though Liam’s review was very clear and understandable I feel as though it would have been better if he were more descriptive. It would have been helpful if he included more detail for each point/fact. For example, it would have been helpful if he expanded a little and told us about the bird itself. I also think that it would have been helpful if Liam included a quote. Quotes are often very good ways to help understand things, and I think a quote would be helpful in this situation.
Overall I think this article is very interesting. I always enjoy learning about new discoveries. Especially discoveries of new species. I found it to be very interesting that not only did they discover a new species, but they were able to find out so many details about its characteristics. Overall this article was interesting and Liam did a good job reviewing it.

  3. After reading this review on “Dino-Era Disaster: Multiple Drowned Toothy Birds”, I believe that Liam did a nice job. I first think that Liam did a good job on picking a very interesting article that intrigues the reader and makes them want to read about the topic and learn more. Also, I feel that Liam did a good job on summarizing the article in a clear concise way that makes the article easier to comprehend for the reader. Finally, I also liked that Liam stated the important facts that were necessary for understanding the article and getting the main point across. For instance, he stated how the scientist believe the eggshells and remains of the birds were fossilized and what other inferences this could lead scientist too.
I did believe this was a very good review, I also did think that there could be some room for improvements. First, I believe that Liam could have added more details from the article in the review to make it more fascinating. I also believe that by doing some background research on this new form of birds that they found and find out more information on them and the topic, which could have made the review more productive.
From reading this review, I was impressed and learned new things that probably never would have occurred to me before. It impressed me and intrigued me that scientist are still finding fossils from tons and tons of years ago during the Mesozoic era and times of dinosaurs. It really impressed me that scientist are still working hard and even still trying to look for fossils and things that could lead them to new theories.

  4. Overall, Liam did a very good job in his review. It was very easy to follow what the article was about, making it a nice read. Also, the review was short and interesting, so I was not bored while reading it. Finally, Liam’s criticisms were valid, and kept the review grounded.

One criticism I have about the review is that some of the grammar was confusing, and this detracted a bit from the quality of the review. Also, it seemed a little too shallow information-wise, so I was left with questions I felt should’ve been answered already.

The review was very interesting. I was amazed that there are still new species of animals being discovered around the world, as I thought that almost all of the world’s animal species had been discovered at this point. This makes me wonder if there are still more species to be discovered, waiting for the right technology to be unearthed.
