Marlene Cimons talks of the Large Animals that we are killing/eating. She references William Ripple who is a professor at Oregon State. Ripple did man studies with animals he calls megafauna. These classify as animals that are the biggest of their species in their respective classes. It is similar to the top two teams in a sports division. They might not be the biggest of all the animals but they are in their class of animals. Ripple classified 300 animals that classify as megafauna animals. Out of these 300, 170 of them are threatened with extinction. Most of these animals are killed by humans and some by global warming hurting their habitat. These animals are killed for trophies and for eating that is highly prevalent in places like Asia and Africa. These studies also show how susceptible these large animals are. Larger animals produce much slowing and require more area for their habitat than that of smaller animals.

There are two major problems of the extinction of these animals. The first is that without these animals we are killing history. Extinction of these animals does not let us study them and also kills our connection to the past. Many animals we see today are ancestors of other prehistoric and cavemen day animals. The second problem with the extinction of the animals in the food chain. The extinction of animals on the top of the food chain would lead to the distortion of an entire ecosystem. For example, if the white shark goes extinct, the fish they eat will grow in population. That will then deplete the entire small fish and plankton population as there are too many fish due to no predator to eat them.

Cimons article is a very intriguing read. She writes very well and explains Ripple's research very well and makes it very easy to understand. The one problem I have is the fact that she only talks about Ripple’s research the entire time. Although his work is very intriguing it would have been nice to see some personal opinions from her.

The current event review Will wrote for Marlene Cimons’ article “We Are Eating Large Animals into Extinction” was well written because the sentences were concise, full of evidence, and examples were given to further the audience’s understanding. The way Will structured his paragraphs was quick to get to the point, he didn’t use fancy words or spend too much time summarizing the article. He used simple sentences such as “Most of these animals are killed by humans and some by global warming hurting their habitat. These animals are killed for trophies and for eating that is highly prevalent in places like Asia and Africa.” This was good for me when I read his article because I didn’t have to spend too much time sifting through words to find useful information. Another positive aspect of Will’s review is that he used a lot of evidence to back his claims up, including referencing data such as “Out of these 300, 170 of them are threatened with extinction.” By including numbers in his article, Will makes his review more legitimized. In addition to concise sentences and abundant evidence, Will also used examples to better explain the author’s ideas. Examples include “These classify as animals that are the biggest of their species in their respective classes. It is similar to the top two teams in a sports division” and “The extinction of animals on the top of the food chain would lead to the distortion of an entire ecosystem. For example, if the white shark goes extinct, the fish they eat will grow in population.” By giving examples, Will helps his readers visualize the ideas he referenced.

The aspects of his article that WIll can improve on include proofread for grammar mistakes, give more reasons as to why he found Cimons’ article so interesting, and elaborate on what animals are being eaten into extinction. In some of his sentences Will made minor spelling and grammatical mistakes that don’t affect my understanding of his review but does damage his credibility. For example; “Ripple did man studies with animals he calls megafauna” and “That will then deplete the entire small fish and plankton population as there are too many fish due to no predator to eat them.” In his reflection, Will repeatedly mentioned that he thought “ Cimons article is a very intriguing read” but didn’t elaborate on why it was so interesting to him. He also repeatedly mentioned megafaunas as “these animals” without naming examples of species being killed by humans. If he named the animals it would’ve added to the credibility of his review. Overall I think Will did a great job writing this review and from this review I learned about the importance of maintaining a balance in nature. Before reading this article I didn’t realize that some of the animals we eat are being hunted into extinction, although I did know about trophy hunters and the negative effect they have on the natural world. I chose this review because animal extinction is an very important topic right now and I was curious as to what species did we eat into extinction.

The current event review Will wrote for Marlene Cimons’ article “We Are Eating Large Animals into Extinction” was well written because there was much evidence to support his claims and his examples were very well thought out. Will structured his paragraphs very well and don't complicate any of his information. What I mean he was straight to the point in all of this article and really supplied good and well though information. For example, when will said “Most of these animals are killed by humans and some by global warming hurting their habitat. These animals are killed for trophies and for eating that is highly prevalent in places like Asia and Africa”, this supplied a good amount of information and gave me a background on where these animals are killed and what they are killed for. Will also brought some data into this article that stood out to me alot. For example when will said “ Out of these 300, 170 of them are threatened with extinction.” this supplied a good amount of data on how many animals are threatened with extinction. The last thing will was excellent at in this article was trying to visualize his points and overall get his point across. For example, he extinction of animals on the top of the food chain would lead to the distortion of an entire ecosystem. This really made me visualize how bad our ecosystem could get if mass amounts of animals are depleted from this earth.

While wills article was overall good, there were some aspects that he could improve on and work on. He didn't explain his last paragraph very well, he overall didn't give examples on why he thought the article was intriguing. For example, when will said “Cimons article is a very intriguing read. She writes very well and explains Ripple's research very well and makes it very easy to understand”. He doesn't elaborate on this point on why he thinks Cimons article is intriguing. It would be better if he have examples from the text on why he thought this. Another thing will could've done better was mentioning outside information and what other epol,e gained from this topic and what the outsider opinions are. We only have in this article facts about large animals going extinct and not an opinion on why it is having a positive or negative effect on the earth overall.

Overall, will did a very good job writing this article.he explained his points very well in the first 2 paragraphs and taught me alot about why having a balance in nature is important. Before reading this article I didn’t realize that some of the animals we eat are being hunted into extinction. This was very fascinating reading about this. I chose this review because animal extinction is a very important topic on today's earth and i was wondering what other things i could gather and learn about it as a whole.
