Harmless soil-dwelling bacteria successfully kill cancer

This article explains bacteria that can destroy tumors and can possibly be used as medicine for cancer therapy. A scientist says that this can be tested in cancer patients in the year 2013 because of being sure with the testing.  Clostridium sporogenes is bacterium that is widespread in the soil, which is what is used for therapy. There are spores of the bacterium that are vaccinated into patients and only grow in solid tumors, where a specific bacteriological enzyme is formed. Professor Nigel Minton is the person who is leading this research and believes that this project will work in 2013.

Many people who have worked in this research believe that this can be a simple and safe procedure for cancer patients. This therapy is said to kill all types of tumor cells, but for people who have a high risk may have to go through a surgical procedure. They have not completely been positive on this research, but the people that have been working on this for years are certain that with more tests, they can be able to cure cancer and stop the battle for people.

Before I read this article, I only knew that there were people that have been working on curing cancer for years, but I did not know that there were researchers that were this close to finding the cure for cancer. After reading this, I feel like there was some good points that can help people believe in a better chance of hope in the future.

  1. I think Tatiana did a good job of presenting this article. While reading the article it was hard to follow along because I found it a very complex article. However, I think she did a superior job of breaking it down and making it easier for the reader to understand. Another positive aspect that I think is important is that she mentioned Professor Nigel Minton and how his plan on how to test this in 2013. I find it important that she emphasized that as of now this is a project that still might need improvising, and that this is not a done deal. It is crucial to know that the cure has not been exactly found, but that it is close to finding. I also believe that she did a good job of explaining how the bacteria can be used as medicine to cure cancer and that it can destroy tumors.
I think Tatiana, should’ve used a little more organization in her paper. Although it was very interesting to read, I felt that I kept jumping from topic to topic. The summary would be easier to read if it were structured better. Another improvement that I felt could’ve been made was to talk about the bacteria more. I feel that there was more to say about the bacteria when explaining it. Most importantly, she could’ve talked about how the bacteria can flourish in low oxygen conditions.
I was very impressed while reading this article. I found it very interesting and helpful because this is a situation that really affects us. Our family members might have cancer and it is a good thing to know that they are beginning to find cures because it gives us hope. I am glad that Tatiana chose this article because I found the information essential and beneficial to know.

  2. I think that Tatiana’s summary on “Harmless Soil-dwelling Bacteria Successfully Kill Cancer” was written extremely well and she made very clear points to help get the point across. Tatiana’s article explains that these harmless soil-dwelling bacteria can successfully kill cancer. I enjoyed that Tatiana was very specific and did not show false hope in her summary so instead of saying it would most defiantly work she explained that we would have to wait until 2013 to make sure it was actually going to work. Tatiana also made a difficult article into a simpler way of explaining how the harmless soil-dwelling bacteria could kill the cancer cells. As Tatiana explained the cure for cancer is not definite and this use of bacteria may not always work.
To improve this summary I would suggest that Tatiana reread the article and then go over the summary and put specific point aligning to the similar aspects. I would have liked to learn more about why the bacteria can kill cancer cells. I would have liked to know why it might not work on some people while it works on others. I would also liked to have seen Tatiana explain the negative effects this treatment could have on a person trying to kill off the cancer or tumor cells. I would have also liked if the article had given the percent rate of success in killing off the horrific cancer and tumor cells.
I always liked to support cancer by walking donating or bike riding for a cause. However I did not know what the money raised to research was used for. I figured they ran tests to prevent cancer but I didn’t know what they did to exterminate cancer cells in people. I was not even sure if it was possible so many people day within a couple months of cancer and we finally have believed to find a cure. If the harmless soil-dwelling bacteria successfully kill off cancer cells that will make so many families be allowed to have more birthdays with their loved ones which only creates happiness.

  3. I think Tatiana did a really nice job with the review of this article; “Harmless Soil-Dwelling Bacteria Successfully Kill Cancer.” I really enjoyed the topic that Tatiana picked for her article review; it was the first review that caught my eye. I thought it was a really intriguing and unique subject, which really does need to be brought to more people’s attention. And I really find it great, that scientists are still working very hard to find cures for this and think that they may have come to a conclusion to this awful illness. After reading Tatiana’s review summary and then reading the real article, I was really able to see how well Tatiana did at summarizing the overall idea and really making it a lot simpler to grasp, because this is a tough topic to understand since there are all these different names of bacteria’s and techniques. I also liked that she really emphasized her main point that this will most likely work in the year 2013, and backed this information up by using the Professor Nigel Minton, who is one of the leading researchers. It really reassures you that scientists are doing the best they can to come up with sufficient ways to cure this growing problem of cancer.
Although I do think that this is a very good review, I do think that there can be revisions made. I first think that there could have been a little more background information on the subject, it seemed a little bit vague and not to much detail. It appeared to only really be the main points, which is good, but it would have been even more interesting and sophisticated if there were more background on the topic such as maybe how they came about this method, how some tumors form, and other interesting facts. Another improvement I think Tatiana could have made to her review would be organize the summary a little better and also talk more about the scientist that are involved with this experiment.
I had always been very aware of this increasing issue, being that my family members have had to go through this horrible devastation. But, after reading this review it really impressed me on how sure that were that they had practically found a cure for cancer, and that it will be released very soon. This really proved to me that scientist are still working hard and never give up.

  4. I personally thought Tatiana summarized her article very well. She stated the important facts and left out unnecessary details. Another thing that I enjoyed about Tatiana’s article was that she stated how the bacteria only grows in tumors, which means that it cannot effect other bodily functions. A third and final thing that I thought was well done was that she gave the name of the bacteria, so if a person who only read the review thought it was interesting, could look it up for themselves to gain more information.

One thing that I thought could have been improved on was the description of the actual bacteria. Other than it being found in soil, no other outstanding information is given, like what it does in the soil or how it is thought to be able to cure cancer. Another thing I thought could have been better was that she does not mention how it is being tested. The information about how it is being tested or why it is thought to be safe for cancer patients is not shown in the article review.

One thing that I thought was outstanding was I didn’t know that bacteria could cure deadly diseases. I thought bacteria usually caused disease and had no idea they were capable of such benefits.

  5. Jack did a very good job getting down to the main idea and topic. He summarized the article very organized and it was very easy to read. He explains the article to good detail for a one paragraph summary.
Even though it was easy to read, i suggest he should of added a bit more detail in his summary to help the reader understand the article to a more extent.I also suggest he adds quotes from the article to set an example for the reader.
This article shocked me! I couldn't believe that they actually found a cure for cancer, This article was very interesting to read and exciting to know about.
